Founded in Oslo in 2018, KapitalKontroll provides a cloud-based platform that enables public- and private-sector customers to manage overdue payments in-house rather than outsourcing the process to traditional debt-collection agencies. Integrated with customers’ finance systems, the software automatically initiates payment reminders and supports case handling, payment plans and reporting. This improves efficiency and recovery rates while streamlining the customer experience.
“KapitalKontroll delivers clear value to CFOs and finance teams through efficient, automated handling of overdue payments while allowing them to remain in control of the customer relationship,” says Kasper Olesen, Partner at Axcel. “With a strong position among Norwegian municipalities and growing traction in the private sector, the company is well positioned for continued growth in Norway and internationally, making it a fitting first investment for Axcel Elevate I.”
Digitalisation reshapes the debt collection market
KapitalKontroll operates in an emerging market for digital in-house debt-collection solutions. Increasing digitalisation, demand for cost efficiency and a stronger focus on customer experience continue to drive growth in the sector.
“KapitalKontroll is transforming traditional debt collection,” says Espen Starheim, Founder of KapitalKontroll. “With Axcel, we gain a partner with deep insight into technology businesses and a proven track record of accelerating growth in Nordic companies. We look forward to taking KapitalKontroll to new heights together.”
KapitalKontroll serves around half of Norway’s municipalities and has in recent years expanded into the private sector, serving customers across industries including accounting, retail and service.
Experienced chairman appointed
In connection with the transaction, Endre Rangnes has been appointed Chairman of the Board of KapitalKontroll. He is President and CEO of Tieto, a leading Nordic IT services and software company, and brings extensive international leadership experience from both the technology and debt-collection industries.
The investment in KapitalKontroll is expected to close in Q1 2026 as the first from Axcel Elevate I. The newly closed fund complements Axcel’s larger mid-market funds and focuses on lower mid-market businesses across the Nordics, particularly within technology, business services and healthcare.
