Axcel VIII was oversubscribed and reached its hard cap less than six months after launch. At EUR 2.1 billion, the new fund significantly exceeds its EUR 1.65 billion target and represents a 60% increase on its predecessor, Axcel VII, which closed at EUR 1.3 billion in 2024 and is now fully invested.
“We’re very pleased with the strong response to Axcel VIII,” says Jesper Breitenstein, Head of Investor Relations at Axcel. “We greatly value the continued support from our long-standing investors and are equally pleased to welcome new leading institutional investors from around the world. We look forward to building these relationships in the years ahead.”
“The strong support for Axcel VIII reflects the growing international recognition of Axcel and the track record we’ve built over more than three decades,” says Christian Bamberger Bro, Managing Partner at Axcel. “While the firm has evolved considerably, our investment approach remains the same: working closely with management teams to build market-leading businesses and create lasting value. We now look forward to putting Axcel VIII to work across Northern Europe.”
Axcel VIII’s investor base consists of leading long-term investors across the Nordics, wider Europe, the US and Asia, including pension funds, asset managers, insurance companies, family offices and foundations.
Investing across Northern Europe
Axcel VIII continues the firm’s mid-market investment strategy across the Nordics and the DACH region. The fund targets investments within Axcel’s four focus sectors: technology, business services & industrials, healthcare and consumer.
Axcel has been investing in Nordic mid-market companies for more than three decades and expanded its geographic presence into the DACH region in 2024 with the opening of its Frankfurt office.
Complementary strategies across the mid-market
Following the close of Axcel Elevate I at EUR 460 million in 2025, Axcel now operates complementary strategies across the mid-market. The Elevate strategy focuses on the lower mid-market in the Nordics, while the firm’s larger funds, now represented by Axcel VIII, target mid-market companies across Northern Europe.
To date, Axcel has completed 82 platform investments, more than 700 add-on acquisitions and 54 exits.
PJT Park Hill acted as Axcel’s global fundraising adviser, while Kirkland & Ellis and Kromann Reumert acted as legal advisers.
